When dynamic Cuban singer Adis Rodriguez and her talented percussionist husband, Ahmed Ponce Mitchell, agreed to perform at both Maynard and Fairview Nursing Homes as part of our CreateMore program with Sheridan Centre for Elder Research, they created a very special program.
At Maynard, the Portuguese population is large, so Adis prepared four Portuguese songs as part of her program. OH MY! Some of the ladies cried, a few gentlemen called out “Viva Portugale!” and the staff danced in the hallway where Adis and Ahmed were performing. One staff member knew all of the words to the songs.
What a celebration! So many stories to share, memories brought to mind, happiness at hearing the familiar music and words.
This is why we do what we do. Such an incredible feeling of community and love.
