You just never know what will inspire some senior residents! In partnership with CreateMore at Sheridan’s Centre for Elder Research, Concerts in Care Ontario presented a pilot concert series at two Schlegel homes in Toronto.
Our series included cello and piano, the versatile High Strung duo, Japanese koto, Payadora Tango Ensemble, Sonority Sisters (flute and violin), and jazz singers/pianists.
Throughout it all, there was one resident who was not happy with any of it. She complained. She said attending was a chore. But halfway through the series, we threw in a surprise: guitar, bass, and TAP DANCING!
Well, on the day the tap dancer was coming, this particular resident a) arrived early, b) dressed to the nines, and c) excited! She was fully engaged from beginning to end, and came to the last two concerts with much more enthusiasm!
