Gabriel Quenneville Belair at Christie Gardens

Gabriel saves the day

On January 19 at 5 pm, our Music Coordinator Brenton Chan received a call from star pianist Kevin Ahfat – who had just tested positive for Covid. But he was supposed to perform a solo concert for Christie Gardens in 2.5 hours.  Brenton flew into action, and in an hour had hired wonderful young pianist Gabriel Quenneville-Belair who warmed his fingers and headed in from the east end to play the concert.

With a program that included selections by Chopin, and familiar favourites such as  Autumn Leaves and Amelie’s Waltz, Gabriel impressed the knowledgeable audience who gave him ovations, lined up to talk with him, and even wrote him notes afterwards.

CiC is so fortunate to cultivate such a depth of excellent and experienced musicians.

AND we are even luckier to have Brenton who can make things turn on a dime!
