Challenge Accepted!

On September 6, 2023 Concerts in Care Ontario hosted a musical event made memorable not only for the music and a senior’s moving testimonial, but also by the sudden downpour on the outdoor terrace, the resulting intimate concert inside, and the exciting challenge from donor Bill Boyle.

Trio Arkel, an exceptional classical string trio, performed both outside and inside, with their Schubert interrupted by a dramatic Mother Nature.  Everyone in the room was within 12 feet of the performers, so that the music had a powerful impact.

Christie Gardens resident Vivien Hicks shared a moving and pointed testimonial in which she spoke about the importance of music in our lives, especially as we age. She described the range of people living in her residence, and how all of them look forward to concerts, but especially to the high quality of musicians from Concerts in Care.

Then the renowned Micah Barnes, jazz singer and a former vocalist with The Nylons, performed with his pianist Patrick Hewan, thrilling the audience with his tributes to Tony Bennett.

When Board Chair Alison Smith announced that Bill Boyle, who built up Harbourfront over his 25-year tenure, was offering a $10,000 challenge to fund concerts at the ten City of Toronto Long-Term Care facilities (LTCs), our attendees humbled us with kind and generous giving.  In 3 days, we surpassed Mr. Boyle’s challenge!

The City of Toronto Long-Term Care home are SO excited and grateful.  These gifts have already boosted morale and given them the anticipation of excellent music delivered by compassionate Concerts in Care musicians.  We will deliver 6 concerts before the New Year, and 34 more in 2024.

This magical gift will provide music for hundreds and hundreds of seniors living in our municipal LTCs.

Many thanks to Mr. Boyle and our 22 generous donors!
