Concerts in Care Ontario is excited to announce a new working partnership with Homes First.
In January we will present a concert to celebrate the start of a partnership between Concerts in Care Ontario and Homes First. The two organizations have come together to provide concert-hall quality music for seniors who are living under stressful conditions at an age when there should be comfort.
Toronto’ senior population has more than doubled in the last 5 years. Many of these seniors live on fixed incomes and must navigate increased barriers to access the support they require as they age. This perfect storm is forcing increasingly vulnerable people into impossible situations, increased substance usage and unraveling mental health. While these current conditions may impact specific neighbourhoods, which are compromised of a diverse population, one group is disproportionately at risk: seniors.
In response to this need, Homes First has recently launched the Homefull Toronto Campaign, which focuses on 3 main pillars: food security, healthcare access, and social connection. This program is a perfect match for Concerts in Care Ontario, whose primary focus is on seniors in various kinds of care.
Music is the most powerful non-medical tool we can offer to our older populations, as many studies have now proven its ability to bridge all language and cultural barrier to reach emotions and memories that allow seniors to reconnect with their sense of identity. This is hugely important when so many are isolated, alone, and finding themselves in unexpected living situations.
Watch for more news in January!
